Around the World with VeChain’s Dimitrios Neocleous

Many of us community members and blockchain professionals are constantly trying to think of ways to use blockchain in our everyday lives. We rack our brains to think of innovative ways that can become a new business model, or just showcase the power of distributed ledger technology and tokenization.

This was also the case for Dimitrios Neocleous, an Ecosystem Manager and legal expert for VeChain. As he travelled the world to meet with clients, businesses, and take part in exhibitions, he realized he could be using blockchain to share his journey, and make a charitable contribution to improve the world around him. Here’s what he came up with:

Phase One – Create a shirt with a QR Code and NFC tag bound to the VeChain blockchain. This will link to a ToolChain page explaining Dimitri’s mission to raise awareness for social causes such as the inequality that exists in our world, climate change, and the reduction of C0₂ emissions. Also connected will be a public wallet address, where donations can be made in a transparent fashion.

Phase Two – Every time he makes a trip, he will scan the QR code with the VeChainWork App once he lands in the airport.

He will then donate $50-100 to the VeChain wallet (out of his own money) and make a post on social media, saluting the communities from the places he is visiting. By sharing the QR code, everyone can see the path he has travelled, along with the transaction ID, donation wallet address, and welcoming additional contributions to this cause.

Phase Three – After one year of traveling and donations, hopefully both from community and himself, he will donate the VET to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

The QR code linked to the NFC Tag on his shirt

The Donation Address: 0x7C33A83921d0e603b2840ec8a685E1bB25dBA189

On that day, I will create the first VET wallet of an established charitable foundation, showing that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies can not only make the business world more efficient but also to make the world better as well.

When I entered the blockchain world, I entered it out of curiosity… Now I am an investor, a builder, a holder and a designer. As my friend Gabriele Manno said, we are all these things in one.

Moreover, I feel blessed and lucky in my life, as I have had the opportunity to be raised with a lot of love, to go to the best schools, and a tremendous  freedom of choice and level playing field to pursue my dreams and goals.

Meanwhile in developing countries, children have been struggling to survive, fighting with demons like polio due to the lack of vaccinations, they are fighting with starvation, the lack of access to clean and drinkable water. In addition, our entire planet is struggling with climate change.

What really though touched me and forced me to action is the refugee crisis that has been happening over the last decade. According to UNICEF, nearly 50 million children have been uprooted, forced to flee from brutal conflict and extreme poverty. This figure includes millions of children caught in wars in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and South Sudan — and many other countries. This figure also includes children driven from their homes by violence or deprivation and forced to make difficult and dangerous journeys abroad, and children who are taken out of schools and don’t know when they might return.

I believe it is my obligation as a human being to be more humane, as I cannot live in ignorance or apathy anymore, every person should have a decent life in this world, especially the future generations. I believe it is my obligation as a constant traveler and polluter to contribute back to the saving of the planet.

That brings me to the QR/NFC-Passport T-shirt, a product I created using ToolChain in a very unconventional way.

Everytime I travel, I will scan my QR- T-Shirt to show my destination and share a picture of my T-shirt on social media, so that people can scan it and observe my travels. At the same time, I will donate $50 to $100 (in VET)  for every trip in a publicly accessible wallet, and after a year, the amount collected will be donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

I will publicly share the account so people can see the flow of donations as well. At the same time, I am calling for everyone to not just re-share my post, but also contribute to this special cause, as any amount is welcome.

This time I am using ToolChain to make a stand, to lift up the society and community, and for a better world, united..

A Guide to VeChain Wallets and Token Management Tools

A Guide to VeChain Wallets and Token Management Tools

In this guide, we look at some of the different ways to manage VeChain tokens while including some handy tools for wallet management. It’s important to familiarize yourself with different methods so that you can get the most out of the ecosystem while still ensuring your digital assets are safe.

VeChain Token Naming Standards

Native Tokens

These include VET and VTHO, the two main tokens that power the ecosystem.

VIP180

This is a subset of ERC-20 and can be used for token-based projects on VeChain platform.

VIP181

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that are used for nodes, game pieces, and other dApp usage.

Officially-Endorsed Wallets

1. VeChainThor Mobile Wallet for iOS or Android

This offers a ton of exclusive features, including access to the official node marketplace where users can take part in auctions or directly transfer nodes. Besides being able to store, view, and transfer assets, users can also access the “Discover” section which includes a number of community built dApps.

Why do you need it?

Many ecosystem activities will be centered around this wallet. Node holders will find the many node services to be particularly useful. Being able to discover and use new community dApps will be a major reason to keep opening the wallet.

2. Sync (Desktop Wallet)

A desktop web browser that has built-in wallet functionality. Web pages that support VeChain dApps will work flawlessly within Sync. Sync is also a great way to view and transfer VET tokens from your computer.

Why do you need it?

Using a desktop is just more convenient, especially when using more complex dApps.

3. Comet (Plugin for Chrome or Brave)

This plugin integrates with your regular browser to give you a lightweight but well-designed wallet. Made by Totient Labs, this tool functions similarly to MetaMask on Ethereum.

Why do you need it?

A very secure and lightweight plugin is a must-have for many dApps and blockchain games. The Comet icon sits in the top right corner of your browser, giving you quick access to your wallet and other info.

Other Wallets and Tools

1. Arkane Wallet (Third-Party Web Wallet)

Designed to make cryptocurrency more simple, this multi-chain tool allows users to sign up for a wallet using Facebook, Gmail, or an eMail address. While this offers you less security compared to a regular wallet, it’s a good option for when you need fast account setup. Cool features allow you to send tokens to an email address, as well as to trade tokens directly within the wallet.

Best feature: Instantly create wallets using your Facebook or Gmail accoun

2.. MySafeWallet (Browser-based Wallet)

VeChain Tokens – A simple but powerful web-based tool for Sync

VeChain Tokens is the latest addition to the VeChainWorld.io tool hub. Advertised as a token transfer and inspection tool, it has plans to incorporate some of VeChain’s most powerful features. VeChain Tokens can be visited inside the Sync browser, allowing the user to control their wallets and manage the various VIP-180 tokens, including OCE, SHA, EHrT and others. It was also one of the first dApps built with Connex, the set of API’s designed by VeChain for browsers to interact to the blockchain with.

To use VeChain Tokens, visit https://vechaintokens.abyteahead.com/ or directly on the Github from within the Sync browser.

VeChain Tokens stands out for its ability to process hundreds of clauses within one transaction – allowing users to instantly create payments to unique recipients all around the world. Currently, the largest payment sent close to 400 recipients in one transaction, used by a project’s HR department to distribute funds. Users can access this feature by saving multiple addresses into a .csv file, and then upload it directly into the web-based tool.

As a monitoring tool, VeChain Tokens allows users to save addresses in the interface, so that they can quickly track balances, including accounts that don’t belong to them. This comes in handy when monitoring well known accounts such as foundation accounts or addresses used for donations.

Still, the most important features are yet to be released. With the imminent mainnet update scheduled for late July, VeChain Tokens can roll out a host of new features.

Upcoming Features

Users sending mass transactions using a .csv file will be able to create a graph of the completed transaction. This data tree can be a valuable accounting tool, as it provides a record of the token flow for these complex multi-recipient transactions.

Using VIP-191, users can send tokens without using VTHO. Instead, VeChain Tokens can pay the transaction fee, while subtracting a small compensation fee from the original token balance. This removes some of the complication of the two-token economic model, allowing users to transfer tokens without having to buy VTHO on an exchange. Learn more about VIP-191 here.

There are a lot of possibilities stemming from the release of the new mainnet update. One example of the ETH-CONST optimization is the possibility of generating known-address new contracts on chain controlled by a single master contract, this opens the availability of many new tools, for example, building multi-address wallets for a single user on-chain. VeChain Tokens will explore the possibilities of using this, which could give users the ability to generate child accounts from their main wallets. These child accounts will be fully controllable by the root account, giving users more privacy when receiving tokens. Other developers will be able to leverage this feature and create more meaningful applications.

Community Development

VeChain Tokens is another tool to come from the community. The developer, who goes by the name of AByteAhead on vechainworld.io, has years of experience developing on blockchain projects, bringing a deeper understanding of the challenges blockchain users face when trying to adopt new solutions.

Users should download and install Sync to take advantage of these great blockchain tools. In the future, VeChain will release another tool, known as My-Tokens, a user-friendly way to send and receive VIP-180 tokens. Developers wishing to have their tokens listed there are welcomed to submit them using the token registry GitHub.
