VeChain VIP-180 Project Roundup – Fall Edition

It’s been awhile since we looked at all the tokens on the VeChain platform. Over the last few months, a few new tokens have joined the official VeChain wallet, bringing the total to nine. Let’s take a quick look at each one from a development perspective, and see what positives or negatives there have been.

The Newcomers

SneakerCoin – SNK

While the name leaves a little to be desired, the team has been very active in recent weeks publishing content in both Chinese and English. Their plans to launch a social media platform, resale marketplace, and a host of other features could be effective, especially considering the popularity of the current global sneaker resale market. The core team and branding strategy is quite strong, and by targeting streetwear enthusiasts, they may succeed in bringing new faces into the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. In addition to helping verify authenticity, SNK can help users digitally claim ownership of their products, which gives brands and customers a whole new way of interacting with the streetwear community.

8Hours – EHrT

8Hours has a monumental task ahead of them – releasing a tabletop gaming device, complete with software, games, and an entire blockchain platform as well. The team certainly knows how to prepare a full workload, but seemed confident that they would begin shipping the PlayTable devices by the end of the year. They recently announced a partnership with COOP, a modern daycare experience that focuses on education, parent/child interactions, and active lifestyles. 8Hours is also developing Toy-Reality, RFID-based toys that interact with the PlayTable, while storing unique toy-related data on the blockchain.

Jur – JUR

As the first IEO on OceanEx, people got their first taste of what Jur calls decentralized LegalTech. Their first project, called the Jur Beta Platform, lauched a few weeks later, and despite some bugs, does show the progress this project has been making. A hectic series of speaking events slated for October also shows the commitment of the team, who recently teased the announcement of new academic partners and a staking model designed to increase rewards for holders. Jur’s maturity and focus on compliance is still quite extraordinary in this space, and will hopefully translate into improving the enterprise experience in the VeChain ecosystem. Jur is a FINMA (Swiss Financial Market Supervisory) compliant token that recently became the first strategic dApp partner of San Marino.

The Mainstays

OceanEx – OCE

OceanEx continues to launch new products, including CryptoFarm (Asset Growth Platform), OceanEx Go (IEO Launchpad), and OceanEx Turbo, a platform for buying discounted tokens from projects looking to list quickly. They also announced a partnership with Cornell University’s Research Lab to study ways to improve machine learning and predictive models for exchange trading activities. They held a number of offline events, including an Amsterdam meetup, and offered more benefits to their OCE Club members. They also announced that fees from OCE Club members will be burned, and that their Fiat-Crypto gateway would be available before the end of the year.

Plair – PLA

After a long spell of development, Plair Beta is available on the mainnet, with titles CS:GO, DOTA, and Team Fortress 2. Users can take part in tournaments and win PLA tokens, in a fully automated and fair environment. Plair has promised more users, features, and matches in the upcoming weeks, so it’s probably wise to keep an eye on their social media accounts.

Decent.Bet – DBET

Playdecent.gg is live, allowing users to play popular games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Rocket League, and many more. Users can win tokens by winning matches, tournaments, and completing quests. Currently this is the most used dApp on the VeChain platform according to dappradar.com. Decent.Bet’s platform will also be used in the Lightning Cup, a 200 person live tournament held in the Las Vegas HyperX Esports Arena. There will be up to $10,000 in prizes, and the event is part of World Crypto Con.

Safe Haven

Safe Haven edged closer to releasing their digital asset inheritance plan with the announcement that their hardware wallet SafeKey was available to order on safetech.io. These compact hardware devices can act as a 2FA device for logging into exchanges and platforms, as well as to securely store your keys directly on the device.

The Disappointments:

TicTalk – TIC

In late June, TicTalk publicly apologized after a failed attempt to manipulate the market on a second IEO. There were then rumors of them seeking investment from GOSChain – a national oddity in China that claims to be founded by a state-owned company yet exhibits all the signs of a classic multi-level marketing scheme. Latest rumors have it that all remaining offices have been shuttered, with employees partially compensated for owed salaries through old office equipment.

Bitagora – BAG

Ever since VeChain101 previewed this token in early June, there hasn’t been a single update that we’ve picked up on. The price has been steadily trending downwards on OceanEx, meanwhile the Telegram linked by the website has 2 users in it and has been inactive since last November. Probably not a whole lot more to say about this one.

Around the World with VeChain’s Dimitrios Neocleous

Many of us community members and blockchain professionals are constantly trying to think of ways to use blockchain in our everyday lives. We rack our brains to think of innovative ways that can become a new business model, or just showcase the power of distributed ledger technology and tokenization.

This was also the case for Dimitrios Neocleous, an Ecosystem Manager and legal expert for VeChain. As he travelled the world to meet with clients, businesses, and take part in exhibitions, he realized he could be using blockchain to share his journey, and make a charitable contribution to improve the world around him. Here’s what he came up with:

Phase One – Create a shirt with a QR Code and NFC tag bound to the VeChain blockchain. This will link to a ToolChain page explaining Dimitri’s mission to raise awareness for social causes such as the inequality that exists in our world, climate change, and the reduction of C0₂ emissions. Also connected will be a public wallet address, where donations can be made in a transparent fashion.

Phase Two – Every time he makes a trip, he will scan the QR code with the VeChainWork App once he lands in the airport.

He will then donate $50-100 to the VeChain wallet (out of his own money) and make a post on social media, saluting the communities from the places he is visiting. By sharing the QR code, everyone can see the path he has travelled, along with the transaction ID, donation wallet address, and welcoming additional contributions to this cause.

Phase Three – After one year of traveling and donations, hopefully both from community and himself, he will donate the VET to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

The QR code linked to the NFC Tag on his shirt

The Donation Address: 0x7C33A83921d0e603b2840ec8a685E1bB25dBA189

On that day, I will create the first VET wallet of an established charitable foundation, showing that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies can not only make the business world more efficient but also to make the world better as well.

When I entered the blockchain world, I entered it out of curiosity… Now I am an investor, a builder, a holder and a designer. As my friend Gabriele Manno said, we are all these things in one.

Moreover, I feel blessed and lucky in my life, as I have had the opportunity to be raised with a lot of love, to go to the best schools, and a tremendous  freedom of choice and level playing field to pursue my dreams and goals.

Meanwhile in developing countries, children have been struggling to survive, fighting with demons like polio due to the lack of vaccinations, they are fighting with starvation, the lack of access to clean and drinkable water. In addition, our entire planet is struggling with climate change.

What really though touched me and forced me to action is the refugee crisis that has been happening over the last decade. According to UNICEF, nearly 50 million children have been uprooted, forced to flee from brutal conflict and extreme poverty. This figure includes millions of children caught in wars in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and South Sudan — and many other countries. This figure also includes children driven from their homes by violence or deprivation and forced to make difficult and dangerous journeys abroad, and children who are taken out of schools and don’t know when they might return.

I believe it is my obligation as a human being to be more humane, as I cannot live in ignorance or apathy anymore, every person should have a decent life in this world, especially the future generations. I believe it is my obligation as a constant traveler and polluter to contribute back to the saving of the planet.

That brings me to the QR/NFC-Passport T-shirt, a product I created using ToolChain in a very unconventional way.

Everytime I travel, I will scan my QR- T-Shirt to show my destination and share a picture of my T-shirt on social media, so that people can scan it and observe my travels. At the same time, I will donate $50 to $100 (in VET)  for every trip in a publicly accessible wallet, and after a year, the amount collected will be donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

I will publicly share the account so people can see the flow of donations as well. At the same time, I am calling for everyone to not just re-share my post, but also contribute to this special cause, as any amount is welcome.

This time I am using ToolChain to make a stand, to lift up the society and community, and for a better world, united..

Dimitrios Neocleous

The shirt was made by T-Bar Cyprus: Our company specializes in designing and printing unique, clever and funny t-shirts as per our customer demands. RealItems.org Helps Businesses Authenticate Products on VeChain

For businesses, blockchain technology can still seem like a distant goal. Solutions are complex, and require major adjustments to supply chains and IT departments. That’s why Real Items created an easy-to-use 2FA QR Code system powered by VeChain.

Tokenizing your Products with TAM

The Tokenized Asset Manager allows businesses to create a VIP-181 NFT token for each of their products. With NFTs, consumers can not only verify the authenticity, but they can also “claim” the tokens, granting them digital ownership as well. This opens up a whole range of possible services that can exist after the point of sale, as well as granting manufacturers key data to better understand their client base.

Analytics provided by demo.realitems.org/admin

Adding Value to the Consumer with Consumer Protection 3.0 (CP3)

On the consumer end, users will be able to scan their products to check for authenticity. They are then faced with a number of features and services that allow them to do things such as display, register, re-sell, transfer, and insure their items. Users can even report goods as stolen, which will display the next time someone else scans the product.

Securing QR Codes – Adding Two-Factor Authentication

As an anti-counterfeiting solution, traditional QR codes just won’t cut it. They are easily copied, making them useless for high value items. Real Items recognized this, but didn’t want to use more expensive chips that add costs and complicate the verification process for the user. So they added a unique PIN number to each QR code, that when entered into the Real Items web app, can verify the ownership and authenticity of a product.

Intelligent Architecture

Real Items knew that the blockchain was just one element of a complete consumer protection platform. A variety of data storage methods would be needed to ensure that speed, security, and privacy was maintained throughout the entire process. Real Items accomplished this by developing a GraphQL API, that increases usability without forcing users to install plug-ins or buy cryptocurrency. You can read more about the architecture decisions in this blog by CTO Ken Woodruff.

All blockchain and database integrations happen in the background, which makes it easy for non-technical businesses to get started. This fall, Real Items should onboard their first clients, which should add mainnet transactions to the VeChain blockchain.

Real Items is also poised to create vertical platforms that can target specific industries. In their home state of California, CEO David Menard is planning to target the vaping and cannabis industries, two sectors suffering from stringent regulation and rampant counterfeiting, which can have severe health implications. The value an Authenticity as a Service Platform provides here is unquestionably high, and can be extended to luxury goods, novelty items, hand-crafted goods, pharmaceuticals, and many others, to name a few.

Both David Menard and Ken Woodruff are big believers in what public blockchain solutions like VeChain bring to businesses. Using VeChain’s ToolChain API, they were able to build powerful solutions of their own. They were forthright when praising ToolChain, but pointed out that ToolChain was more focused on supply chain quality assurance (internal operations), whereas Real Items was strengthening the relationship between brands and end-consumers.

VeSign – Verify and Notarize files on the blockchain

For users looking for innovative new ways to interact with the blockchain – development house EnChain came up with a simplistic yet powerful solution that notarizes and verifies files on the VeChain platform.

This handy dApp is packed full of features – including the ability to create a custom signature so that users can digitally sign documents in a verifiable manner. You can also request the signatures of others, making it quite useful for contracts and businesses.

For those worried about security, VeSign works in a unique way. Rather than uploading your documents to the internet, it hashes your file locally by breaking down the bytes that make up the file. The hash is then uploaded, meaning the contents of your file never leave your computer. Once the hash is recorded, other users can verify a file is the original using a similar process. If the file is later modified, the data constituting the file would be altered, and unrecognized by VeSign.

EnChain built VeSign with ease of adoption in mind. The login page and dashboard is similar to a traditional webpage, without forcing users to manage the more technical aspects of a blockchain. Using VeChain’s fee delegation method known as VIP-191, VeSign is able to handle blockchain transaction costs behind the scenes. At the moment, VTHO is provided for free, but there is a plan to allow users to connect their existing VeChain wallets or use more traditional payment methods.

EnChain is a developing house that specializes in creating blockchain solutions for businesses and projects. They firmly believe in the advantages that the VeChain platform offers over other public blockchains, from the unique features to the active governance model. Having an ecosystem with existing enterprise partnerships adds to the value by giving EnChain the possibility of reaching more users.

Currently they are working on improving VeSign as a SaaS platform, while their development team based in Germany are building blockchain solutions for other companies. In an interview with Co-founders Brenden Tehrani and Marcel Cohrs, they heaped praise on the process of becoming a VeChain Channel Partner, mentioning how smoothly the collaboration had been with SEA and Australia General Manager Sarah Nabaa and Project Manager Perkins Chen. Tehrani discussed the high demand for EnChain’s services, and how finding enough developers to handle their client’s needs was a constant challenge. Relying on his experience with client development, he painted an optimistic picture of the future of their alliance with VeChain and the industry in general. They also hinted at an upcoming dApp coming to VeChain that was more recreational in nature.

Introducing BYD’s Line of Vehicles Compliant with the Low Carbon Ecosystem

Two weeks ago, we brought you a sneak peak at VeChain and DNV GL’s Digital Low Carbon Ecosystem. The ecosystem encourages China’s citizens to take part in eco-friendly activities by rewarding them with tokens that will be used for discounts and services.

On September 21, BYD’s Official Cloud Service WeChat account launched instructions on how to join. Users can download the app in the BYD D++ store, while binding it to the WeChat Mini Program allowing them to conveniently check their accumulated Carbon Credits. This initiative should encourage drivers to utilize their electric features, reducing the amount of pollution coming from the streets of China. Let’s take a look at the vehicles currently available, according to the official instructions:

QIN PRO (Hybrid and Full Electric Model)

This hybrid sedan debuted at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Since then, more than 52,000 models have been sold in China.

TANG (Hybrid and Full Electric)

This full-size hybrid SUV sold more than 62,000 models in 2018, but only the latest version is currently supporting the Low Carbon Ecosystem.

Song (Hybrid and Full Electric)

This smaller version of the Tang sold more than 91,000 models in 2018. Only the latest version is compliant.

In the future, all remaining BYD models equipped with the rotating pad display will support the Low Carbon Ecosystem. For reference, BYD sold over half a million vehicles in China in 2018, showing that there is lots of room for growth. With more than 200,000 supported vehicles potentially already on the roads, it’s easy to see BYD’s customers bringing exceptional volume to the VeChain platform.
